Easy Rafting in Umbria

With my family over for holiday, we decided to entertain the kids (and us!) and booked an easy rafting session at the Pangea  outdoor centre in Scheggino. It was an excellent day out and both the children and ourselves had a great day.

The Pangea Outdoor Centre offers various activities, but for families with small children, I suspect the easy rafting is most fun. Even small children from 5-6 years old can take part and one does not need to have any experience. Wear your swimsuit, take a towel with you and also a pair of shoes that you don’t mind getting wet (boat/water shoes are ideal).

Upon arrival you’ll have to change into wetsuits that they supply, you’ll get instructions and will learn how to swim in the river. The water is very cold (refreshing!) and even the small children we had with us were able to do these exercises. With two boats we went down the river, each boat with an instructor. It is all quite safe and lots of fun.

Prices go from eur 35 euro for an adult and eur 25 for a child, small children eur 5 (< 5 yrs). All in all, it takes about 2 hours and you are in the water for just over an hour. Pangea also offers kano, canyoning and recently also tubing. They organise excursions and you can rent mountainbikes with them. They also speak english. It is necessary to book first: tel. +393487711170. The address: Piazza del Mercato, Scheggino (PG)

Scheggino itself is a lovely little town, with several restaurants. We went to the trattoria next to the fishing pond, La Locanda di Valcasana; good food, not expensive and the terrace is next to the fishing pond in the shade.

Also in Scheggino is the Activo Park where children and adults can climb in trees and children will surely spend some happy hours here.
