Umbria Blog | Restaurant Pizzeria La Serra

Everybody knows “pizza”. Maybe it is the most famous Italian dish in the world. Italians themselves love eating pizza. On every corner of the street you can get a slice, a “pizza al taglio”. The toppings on the pizza vary from fish to meat, from fresh fruit to only vegetables.

La Serra is a restaurant-pizzeria outside the city centre of Perugia. La Serra literally means greenhouse. It used to be a greenhouse: nowadays the restaurant has a long and narrow structure and is very large serving many guests. At the entrance are large craft beer brewers, though they do not seem to be in use. The restaurant does serve some special beers, though.

Often the restaurant is crowded with mainly local people. La Serra is not known by tourists because of its location outside the historical centre of Perugia. It is close to the football stadion.

Coming here for the first time you’ll be surprised by the size of the pizza. One pizza takes two plates to serve! It is hard to imagine finishing this mega pizza, but no worries. Within minutes you’ll finish the first half. It is a very thin pizza and not difficult to digest. You’ll love it!

The menu of the mega pizza is variable. On the placemat menu is a list of the “Super Mega Pizza Speciale”. But the menu also offers classics like the Pizza Margherita or the Pizza 4 Formaggi. For children there is a “baby pizza” which has the normal pizza size. If you don’t feel like having a mega pizza, the restaurant also offers good pasta and meat dishes.

If you really can’t get to the end of your pizza, you can ask a take away pizza box. Don’t hesitate to ask for a box, many people do!

Restaurant Osteria Macoma Perugia

Olmo is is kind of suburb of Perugia. It is along the high way between Perugia and Lake Trasimeno. In Olmo you can find a big Pam supermarket and just above this you will find this lovely restaurant. A real small family run business. The mother and brother are in the kitchen while the two sisters serve the tables.

The furnishing is modern with artistic and alternative items on the walls. There is a black board with something interesting written on it, glancing on the facebook page the things written are usually the type of life lessons that keep you thinking a little and feeling good a lot! One example: “La brutta notizia è che il tempo vola. La buona è che il pilota sei tu!” (The bad news is that time flies. The good news is that you are the pilot!).

In summer you can enjoy your meal from the garden. I have taken two pictures of the garden from the facebook page so you can have a look. It really is lovely. However, it will not be surrounded by idyllic silence because the high way is running through the same valley. However, not immediately attached to the restaurant! Now … back to what one come to a restaurant for! The food.

The food is excellent, obviously because if I did not like it, I would not have made a blog post about it (for those who follow this blog regularly, I do not like to give negative publicity so if I do not like a place, and there are really many!!!, I simply do not mention it). The menu has great variety yet is not very long. The lighter choices (calorie wise) are indicated with an * which might help those of us who love eating outside, but hate putting on weight. The menu also has some choices you do not encounter traditionally in Umbria, very refreshing indeed!

The two sisters are very kind and lovely, really making an effort to provide excellent personal service. It is also centrally located …

Restaurant in Perugia Al Mangiar Bene

A lovely restaurant / pizzeria (with wood fired pizza oven) in the centre of Perugia, just off Corso Vannucci.

The restaurant pledges the use of as much as possible local (0 km) and organic ingredients. The pizza’s are great (only in the evening). The menu is divided into red pizzas (with tomatoes) and white pizzas (you guessed it … without tomatoes). The rest of the menu is also nice, with big varied antipasti, lovely pastas en good ‘secondi’ (main courses).

There is a small wine list and there are several excellent beers to choose from, all from small producers and some organic.

Ristorante Pizzeria Al Mangiar Bene. Via della Luna 21. Telephone 075 5731047. Closed on Sundays.
