Umbria Blog | visit La Pergola and eat like barbarians

Between Lake Trasimeno and Perugia are the holiday apartments of La Pergola. It has nine apartments and a large pool. At 4 km distance is Castel Rigone where you find a bakery, a bar and a grocery store.

Friends of mine were on a holiday at La Pergola in apartment Orvieto. They were five adults and a baby. Of course I already knew the apartments, but hanging out there as a tourist was my first experience. It really felt like a holiday! The views from the pool surprised me, so amazing. I loved it.

It was incredibly warm, so cooling down in the pool was almost a necessity that day. It was nice to meet other guests from Villa in Umbria around the pool. It is always pleasant to hear from guests how they spend their holidays and that they’re enjoying their time in Umbria. Also my Belgian friends were having a good time visiting many places like Assisi and Perugia, and also Cortona in Tuscany, all easy to reach from La Pergola.

In the evening we went to Castel Rigone for the local festival called “La Festa dei Barbari”, the festival of barbarians. A yearly sagra which takes place early August. Before dinner, we paid for our food and the wine was inclusive, how wonderful! Local barbarians served us free red and white wine at our table.

We drank wine as water and we ate as barbarians. We’ve tasted almost everything! After the food there was music, dance and theatre. A great experience when you’re on a holiday in Umbria.

Umbria Blog | Montefalco and Giro d’Italia

Like every year around this time, the Giro d’Italia is going through Italy. On Tuesday May 16, 2017 is the 10th round of the Giro, a hilly trail in Umbria starting in Foligno. The first cyclist will start at 1:00 pm in Foligno next to the Duomo, and the last cyclist will finish in Montefalco at 5:15 pm, just outside the city walls. Before arriving in Montefalco the cyclists pass by Bevagna, a beautiful medieval village.

During the Giro d’Italia Montefalco is coloured pink wherever you look. Even the wine bottles outside are pink. Pink is the most important colour of the Giro d’Italia. Various activities are being organised, such as wine tasting, performances, DJ’s, and theme dinners in taverns to celebrate the Giro d’Italia. It is a lively atmosphere already before the arrival of the bicycle caravan.

The locals and the region Umbria itself pay a lot of attention to this event. More information about the Giro d’Italia you can get at the local tourist information or download the program from the website.

Federico II is a restaurant and bar in the centre of Montefalco. The owner of the restaurant is Roberta. She told me that Montefalco will be crowded the coming days. Federico II is an ideal place for an appetizer, pizza, pasta or meat dishes. They serve good wines, like the famous Sagrantino wine. I had a wonderful lunch with gnocchi al Sagrantino and a glass of Sagrantino wine 🙂 Outstanding!

Roberta also is the owner of A Montefalco, a residence with apartments and swimming pool. It is at only 10 minutes walking from the historical centre of Montefalco. Roberta and her family own a number of restaurants and bars in Montefalco and in Foligno. This family is a real Umbrian family offering hospitality to their guests and showing them Umbria the way they have always known it.

Umbria Blog | Villa in Spello

The glorious hills of Umbria are slowly but surely changing to their green colour, the mimosa is blooming everywhere, Spring is in the air! March is still a period of very unstable weather, but the temperatures are pleasant and the days begin to get longer.

Many of you already know that we rent out villas in Umbria through our website and we always look for new holiday rentals. Last week we were invited by Massimo and Roberta for a visit to their cosy and modern villa in Spello. Massimo comes originally from Rome and Roberta is born in Foligno. They live on the property in their own separate house, and re-styled the villa they used to live in. We really loved the house! Also the swimming pool is particular with its black colour. From the garden and the upstairs windows you have a beautiful view towards Assisi and Spello. The house is set in the valley below Spello. There are three bedrooms and three bathrooms in the villa. The house sleeps 6+1 people. There’s a car park and flat garden with barbecue.

This villa has in ideal position to explore Umbria. Visiting places like Assisi, Spello, Montefalco, Bevagna and Spoleto is easy to do. There also is a cycle path nearby connecting Spoleto and Assisi.

We will soon add this villa to our website, this is just a preview. You’ll like it.

Roberta and Massimo are very kind and they hope to welcome you in Umbria. Already interested? Ask us!
