Assisi is built on the slopes of the mountain ‘Monte Subasio’. Since 1995 it is a protected nature reserve called the Parco del Monte Subasio. In this beautifully green mountain range there are small hamlets, here and there a restaurant, a local bar and quite some holiday rentals spread through the hills. A place where you find peace and harmony, like Saint Francis did 800 years ago wandering through these forests.
Close to Il Paradiso in the “Parco del Monte Subasio” we already rent a beautiful private villa with swimming pool. A peaceful and amazing place. This time we drove further into the park and visited a new holiday rental for Villa in Umbria. This agriturismo has five apartments and a swimming pool. The English family owning it emigrated in the seventies to Umbria and bought this beautiful structure. At the time it was a rather uncomfortable old farm without water and electricity. We got a very warm welcome with freshly picked cherries from the garden by Ella, the daughter of the family and her little niece. Ella was raised here and speaks both Italian and English fluently.
It is a beautiful agriturismo in amazing surroundings. Everything is well maintained. The garden is wonderfully decorated with flowers. There are sitting areas all around to enjoy the views and the sounds of nature – birds singing and insects buzzing. Wow!
The owners live in a separate home on the premises. They have a vegetable garden and some chickens. Walking further, a path leads to a small forest where we discovered yurts. It must be fun for children to play here, or to just sit in the shade of the trees reading a book. This location is a fairy tail for those who want to spend a relaxing holiday in a peaceful area.
On our way back, we decided to go for a quick lunch to Da Giovannino. A bar, restaurant and small grocery store along the road to Assisi in the hamlet Il Paradiso. We bought two freshly made sandwiches and were amazed by the price: 4,30 euros for two sandwiches and a large bottle of water. Nowadays it is hard to find places like these where you can eat well at a price like that! In the evening the restaurant serves typical local food.
