In Umbria we have these fantastic big earthworms. They are either enormously long or short and very fat (depending on what they are doing, a lovely quality to have isn’t it?).
I love them since they do a lot of hard garden work. Unfortunately now and then some of them seem to get bored from the hard work underground and need a holiday. They come up, roll in the dust and start sunbathing … for the health of worms this is not a good thing.
I always doff the proverbial hat and add them to the compost heap.
