Yesterday I went for a visit to one of our holiday rentals in Umbria; Country House Dante. Besides renting apartments, they also run a family restaurant. Very comfortable when you are on a holiday! I was curious to learn about their Umbrian cooking and asked the owners, Dante and Luciana, whether I could spend a “mini holiday” at their farm. I was more than welcome…
This holiday farm is in a quiet country setting with great views over the surrounding green hills. The swimming pool and restaurant are next to the farm. Luciana is a very friendly hostess. The entire garden and park area is very well-kept by Dante. Hospitality, cleaning and good service are very important to them!
The pizzeria restaurant offers a huge selection of pizzas, but also many pasta dishes, antipasti and meat dishes. I’ve taken a look in the kitchen to make some pictures before I had my dinner on the terrace overlooking the Umbrian valley. Dante’s mother and another lady cook and together they prepare delicious meals. They serve fresh egg pasta; Ravioli and Fettuccine. If you are interested they can organize a cooking course.
I discovered that Dante is a “jack-of-all-trades” : gardener, pizza baker, host, a friendly person… But his pizzas are really outstanding!
During my dinner I enjoyed the food and the service. Luciana’s sister is the waitress at the restaurant. She gives good advice about wines to combine with different kinds of dishes. She lives in Città di Castello, 20 km drive from the restaurant. First she was secretary, but she quit her job to work with her family.
This day really was a mini-holiday for me and I hope to return very soon. A beautiful tranquil place with nice people. For more information about this holiday rental, have a look at our website Villa in Umbria: Country House Dante. This season 2014 they still have apartments available. You are very welcome!
The restaurant is open from June until September, every evening. If you are on a holiday in Umbria, and you would like to have a typical Umbrian dinner with friendly service and a beautiful view don’t hesitate to pass by! The name of the restaurant is “L’Archibugio” in Lugnano.
